Civil Twilight to headline final WFPK Winter Wednesday show

Civil Twilight will headline WFPK’s final Winter Wednesday show tomorrow night.

The inaugural season of the winter series of shows was an extension of the public radio station’s popular free Waterfront Wednesday concert series.

Civil Twilight is a four-piece rock band, three by way of Cape Town, South Africa –Steven McKellar, Andrew McKellar, Richard Wouters– and Kevin Dailey via Nashville, Tenn.

The band blends what it’s website describes as a “mystifying blend of atmospheric sounds with swirling guitars and hazy storytelling centered on the struggles and triumphs of human existence.”

The dulcet, piano driven pop is reminiscent of Muse and Coldplay, pairing Steven McKellar’s falsetto with drifting melodies.

The band has spent the last year opening for groups like Smashing Pumpkins and Florence & The Machine, as well as having their music being featured in a number of popular television shows, according to a press release.

This fall, on the back of their most recent full-length album “Holy Weather,” Civil Twilight will be part of a national tour with Mutemath.

Doors for Wednesday’s show will open at 6:30 p.m. Bobby Long is scheduled to open the show at 7:30 p.m., with Civil Twilight set to perform at 8:30 p.m.

WFPK Winter Wednesday is free to the public. WFPK in partnership with Yum! Brands Foundation to raise awareness for Dare to Care Food Bank, asks attendees to bring a canned good or other non-perishable item to be collected at the door.

The show will be held at the Clifton Center, 2117 Payne Street, in Louisville.
