The Who: Quadrophenia tour

Another in a number of legendary rock-and-roll acts is set to pass through Louisville’s KFC Yum! Center next Saturday.

The Who will perform Quadrophenia, its 1973 double album on Saturday, Feb. 16.

Founding members Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend will be playing the album in its entirety, 40 years after its original release. The album was the band’s second rock opera — Tommy was the first — and it rose to number two on the U.S. Billboard album chart. Other founding members Keith Moon and John Entwistle are both deceased.

The Who’s original members will be joined on the tour with by Zak Starkey (drums), Pino Palladino (bass), Simon Townshend (guitar/backing vocals), Chris Stainton (keyboards), Loren Gold (keyboards/backing vocals) and Frank Simes (musical director, keyboards/backing vocals), according to the band’s website.
It is the band’s first North American tour in four years.

The-Who-Quadrophenia-tour-2012-13The first leg of the tour kicked-off Nov. 1, passed through 21 cities and wrapped up Dec. 9. The second leg of the tour kicked-off Jan. 28 and will carry the iconic band through 16 more cities, including Louisville, before they launch the European leg of their tour after Feb. 26.

The legendary British rockers formed their band in 1964, compiled numerous top 40 singles in the United States and UK, along with multiple gold, platinum and multi-platinum albums to their credit.

Known for their raucous live shows, debauchery, hotel, toilet and instrument destruction, The Who became legends of the rock-and-roll world. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.

In addition to playing the full catalog of their 1973 rock opera, The Who promises to also play a “selection of classics” when they invade the KFC Yum! Center.

Tickets are still available for the show and range from $39.50-$129.50. Doors are scheduled to open for the show at 6 p.m.
