Louisville Dulcimer Society brings road show home

A major gathering of dulcimer players and other folk musicians will be held in Louisville for the first time. The Louisville Dulcimer Society will celebrate its 26th annual Ohio Valley Gathering on March 30 at the Holiday Inn Louisville East on Hurstbourne Lane

The Ohio Valley Gathering, known as OVG, attracts more than 500 lovers of acoustic music. Over 40 volunteer instructors, vendors and performers from across the mid-western and eastern United States come to share their talents throughout the weekend. Instructional classes on penny whistle, ukulele, banjo, banjammer, guitar, mandolin, folk percussion, bowed psaltery, washtub bass, hammer dulcimer and mountain dulcimer music are planned.

The OVG has been held in Owensboro, Evansville, Lexington and Indianapolis in past years.  It’ll be a first for Louisville. Registration is $7 per person. Spouses are free if they do not attend any of the workshops.

Concerts are planned that Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. The public is welcome. More than three hours of traditional music will be featured for a suggested $5 donation.

Activities begin at noon that Friday.  Saturday activities begin at 8 a.m. The event ends both Friday and Saturday with the 7 p.m. concert. There is a hymn sign beginning at 9 a.m. that Sunday morning.
